Match Report: Flames tackles The Generals

Flames had to use all their firepower yesterday as they fire through The Generals in a very competitive encounter which ended 1-0 in favour of the Flames. Wizurai, nicknamed the "Generals", which symbolizes strong and powerful leaders, did prove a that they are a tough nut to crack. But Flames showed that they buffed to much heat for The Generals to handle.

The first 45 minutes was not a half to be proud of for both teams. The direction of the play was largely succumbed to the centre of the midfield where the midfielders from both teams struggle for possession. Wizurai played nice passing football and kept the F&F players busy with their brand of of football lead by their talismanic duo in midfield, Berba-toi and Yin Yang. For the first time, F&F defense was put the test and it proved to be solid as Wizurai had no chance to trouble goalkeeper, Azim "Pelekat". Nadeem and Zul K played well under pressure in the first half, backed by Fahrul Ramsey and Fauzan "Makan Tanah". F&F also had no real chance except for a disallowed goal when Saeed was ruled offside from an Alawi lobbed pass.

In the second half, F&F gathered pace and played like their normal self, hitting pass after pass to drain out the Wizurai players. The arrival of Boy P introduced a different dimension to F&F game when he injected some attacking sense to the Flames engine. F&F changed tactics after the first half after much deliberation by Ayiepin, the mastermind of F&F. The first goal came after Boy P was fouled close to the penalty area. Alawi, in 'Pernambuchano' style, drifted in a dangerous free kick which was met by the head of Essa. But Essa could only steer it to the back post where the dynamic Saeed was waiting to pounce the ball. Zul Janggut, Wizurai long time goalkeeper who is said to have an eeky scandal with team manager, Fatah, could not hold on to the ball as he sees it pass his goal post. The Generals attacked through set pieces from Faizal Beckham but F&F goalie was equal to the challenge as he was brilliant in the second half. F&F kept the ball to themselves after that as if they wanted to take the ball home with them with silky passing from the defenders to the midfield and back forth. They controlled the tempo of the game as they hold on to the slender 1-0 lead. The chemistry between Boy P and Zul P was on the show once again as they exchanged a 1-2 pass before Zul P slipped through a lovely pass to Boy P. Boy P unselfishly crossed the ball when he was in a position to shoot but Essa was unable to head the ball down into the net. Wizurai however did try to counter attack when they had the chance but F&F backline was quick to diminish any ball that came up to the 3/4 of the field. Zul P escaped a deserved yellow card after his hard challenge on Song Wei but no love was lost between the two as both have the mentality of a professional footballer.

A few Wizurai players deserved a mention here as they show their skill and determination, namely Berba-toi, Yin Yang, Faruk Cocoa Gelap and Eskandar. The whole Wizurai team worked well together to put on an impressive display and should be proud of their performance.

F&F take on one more step towards the glory and it is also not fair to say that they don't deserve the victory over Wizurai as they played beautiful football intergrated with will and determination to succeed.

Final game of the coveted MMU Cup will be played against Mantisz FC on Wednesday at the MMU Stadium(subject to change).
